Ashen Sea

Map location of the Ashen Sea

In a great depression stretching like a scar across the northern hemisphere is a archipelago of volcanic islands, their surrounding ocean long dead and then replaced with one of their own making; a thousand years of belching dust and fire in to the surrounding sky has largely filled the basin with drifting and treacherous ash. Frequent earthquakes can be seen rippling in radiating swells across the semifluid surface of the Ashen Sea, a phenomenon known as the Thrashing of Aborus.

Occasional dust storms from this area make a wide radius around it inhabitable, but several important trade routes must cross it using specialized ashskips.
